He kept the energy fun and maintained a watchful eye so we felt safe and kept the pace between the activities. It was a COVID conscious activity with adequate reminders to keep masks on in the appropriate areas (like on the bus). My husband and I love to be active on our vacations but had kept it to fishing until week 3 when we finally said, let’s do something off the beach. The day was packed with action but not so much that you felt like you couldn’t keep up. The highlight was 100% the rapids which was not as scary as it can sound. Second runner up was the zip line - a super unique course full of variety from views to Tarzan swinging and the rappelling. Well thought through and super safe. Unfortunately the horse back riding ranks last for us. It was a large group and the horses seemed not to like that. My husband and I did fine and had a nice ride but some riders felt they were crowded on the trail. The hot springs was more than what I expected! It was like an outdoor bathhouse. Fantastic! I’d do it again in a heartbeat and I think everyone in our group would agree. Great time had by all! … read less

I would recommend asking for Norman and Ernesto to be your guide and driver. Ask them lots of questions. These guys are great! They are very proud of their country and on the way to the River, they will go over the history of Costa Rica and they will explain some of the local legends. This tour does include a lunch from a local restaurant close to the river. The lunch was a local cuisine of chicken, salad, hash, and beans and rice. The river boat is covered, so, in case it rains, you will most likely stay dry. We did encounter heavy rains, and we were dry. The captain of the boat pointed out monkeys, birds, crocs, bats, etc. I would recommend that you bring bug spray because the mosquitoes will be out! You can bring your own beer and they will put it in a cooler for you if you so choose. Bring extra tip money since this tour does make a couple of extra stops, like the coffee plantation. He was funny and friendly and very informative. He is very proud of his country and loves to share his knowledge of Costa Rica. He made sure we had a good time and went above and beyond to look for unique birds, plants, and animals for us to see and even found a sloth that we could see up close. We also went to a coffee plantation where Christian (the farm owner) and his wife made fresh coffee, and cheese, and gave us a piece of sugar cane to taste. And showed how they grow coffee beans.
